Where it all began
In the middle of the center of Figueres, on Carrer Monturiol, stands the house where Salvador Dalí was born in 1904. Since 2023, you can visit his birthplace, and we definitely recommend it.
We have been there ourselves and found it to be a very fun and surprising experience. Don't expect a classic museum with paintings on the wall. Here, it is all about the young Salvador, his family, and the events that shaped him into the world-famous artist he later became.
Meet the young Dalí
In this house, Dalí grew up with his parents and sister Anna Maria. The memory of his older brother, who died before his birth and was also named Salvador, played a special role in his childhood.
During the visit, you will discover more about his family, his relationship with his father, and the environment in which his enormous imagination began to develop.
It suddenly gives Dalí a completely different face. Not just the eccentric artist with his famous mustache, but also simply Salvador, the boy who grew up here in Figueres.
Not an ordinary museum
The way the story is told makes the birthplace so enjoyable.
With projections, sound, visual effects, and audiovisual elements, you are taken through different rooms and periods of his life. You don't just look at showcases full of objects; you are really drawn into the story.
A visit takes about an hour and is therefore very easy to combine with other attractions in Figueres.
Then a sandwich at Maia
And when you step outside again, we have another nice tip.
Cross the street and step inside Flequers Maia. Bread plays a prominent role in Dalí's art, and the characteristic bread shapes can even be seen on the facade of his famous museum in Figueres.
We find it fun to get something delicious here after the visit. This way, your Dalí morning suddenly gets a very Spanish continuation: museum out, bakery in, and continue discovering Figueres with a tasty sandwich.
Combine with the Dalí Museum
Haven't had enough of Dalí yet? The famous Teatre-Museu Dalí is within walking distance, and both museums are perfect to visit on the same day.
We would start at his birthplace. First, you get to know the young Salvador, and then in the Teatre-Museu, you see what ultimately became of that special boy from Figueres.
In between, take the time for a terrace or lunch. The center of Figueres is compact and cozy, so you absolutely don't have to make it a rushed museum day.

Also fun with kids
The birthplace is surprisingly fun with kids too. The audiovisual presentation and special effects make it much more accessible than a traditional museum.
And with a visit of about an hour, it's manageable for children as well.

Our tip
Go in the morning and make it a Dalí day in Figueres. Start at his birthplace, then get something delicious at Maia, and walk through the center to the Teatre-Museu Dalí.
This way, you follow his life story almost literally in a few hours: from the house where Salvador Dalí was born to the museum that ultimately became his final resting place.
And afterwards? Be sure to find a nice terrace. After all, you're also just on vacation.

How do I book a holiday villa with BONVIDA?
Have you found a holiday villa that suits you? Then you can easily and securely reserve it online via our website. The availability in our calendar is always up-to-date, so you can immediately see if your favorite villa is still available for the desired period.
After placing your reservation, you will immediately receive a confirmation by email. This way, you know that your reservation has been successfully received by us.
We will then personally check your reservation. After that, you will receive the final booking confirmation from us, including all the details of your stay, payment information, and further practical information.

How much do I need to pay in advance?
After your reservation, you will first receive your booking confirmation from us. Then you pay the rental amount in three parts, so you don't have to pay the entire amount in advance at once.
- Within 7 days of your reservation: approximately 30 to 35% of the rental amount.
- No later than 8 weeks before arrival: again approximately 30 to 35% of the rental amount.
- Upon arrival: the remaining amount.
You pay the first and second deposit by bank transfer. The last part is paid upon arrival and can be done by card or cash.
The exact amounts and payment dates are always clearly stated on your booking confirmation. This way, you know exactly what to expect from the moment of booking.

Who will welcome me in Spain?
Upon arrival, you will be personally welcomed by us. No key box or unknown intermediary, just a personal welcome as soon as you arrive in Spain.
The key handover usually takes place at our holiday office in Empuriabrava. There we welcome you, provide you with the keys, and give you all the information you need for a great start to your holiday.
During your stay, we remain your direct point of contact. Do you have a question, is there an issue with the villa, or do you need help with something? You can contact us directly.
We live and work permanently all year round on the Costa Brava, close to your holiday villa. This way, we are always nearby when you need us.
