Most Beautiful Beaches in Roses
From Wide Sandy Beaches to Hidden Coves in Cap de Creus
Roses is a wonderful destination for beach lovers. Around the bay, you'll find long sandy beaches with shallow waters, while the coast towards Cap de Creus becomes increasingly rugged, giving way to small coves, rocks, and beautifully clear water.
Whether you're looking for a comfortable beach day with kids, love snorkeling, or are seeking a quiet cove in the middle of nature: you'll find it all around Roses.
These are our favorite beaches and coves that you should definitely discover during your vacation.
The Beaches in the Bay of Roses
If you love a wide sandy beach with all amenities within reach, Roses is the place to be. Along the boulevard, there are several beaches that almost seamlessly blend into one another.
Santa Margarida is a lovely sandy beach with clear and shallow water. The boulevard runs directly behind the beach, and you'll find plenty of restaurants, terraces, and shops in the area. There are various amenities, and the beach is also easily accessible for people with limited mobility.
Heading towards the center, you'll find Salatar, Rastrell, and Platja Nova. These are especially delightful beaches for families: wide, fine sand and a sea that gently slopes down. The boulevard with restaurants and terraces is directly behind the beach.
On the other side of the center lies Platja de la Punta. From here, you gradually leave the long beaches of the bay behind and the coast becomes increasingly rocky.
Platja dels Palangrers
Just past the fishing harbor lies Platja dels Palangrers. A small beach with sand and rocks and beautifully clear water.
It is much smaller in scale than the large beaches in the bay, making it fun if you want something different from the long boulevard beaches.
Canyelles Petites
One of our favorites is Canyelles Petites. This beautiful cove lies between Roses and Almadrava and features golden sand and stunning blue water.
It is a pleasant combination of a charming cove and the convenience of nearby amenities. This makes Canyelles Petites very suitable for families.
Platja de l'Almadrava
If you drive a little further along the coast, you'll reach Almadrava, also known as Canyelles Grosses.
This is a beautiful sandy beach with clear water and a lovely location between the hills. From here, you gradually leave the built-up area of Roses behind and the rugged landscape of Cap de Creus begins.
The Hidden Coves of Cap de Creus
After Almadrava, perhaps the most beautiful part of the coast around Roses begins.
The nature park Cap de Creus has a completely different landscape than the wide bay of Roses. Here you'll find a rugged coastline, Mediterranean vegetation, and small natural coves with exceptionally clear water.
This is a beautiful area, especially for lovers of snorkeling, diving, hiking, and nature. Be sure to bring water shoes, as many of these beaches consist of pebbles and rocks instead of soft sand.
Cala Montjoi
Cala Montjoi is probably one of the most famous coves in Roses. The cove is located in the heart of the Cap de Creus nature and is a wonderful place to combine swimming and nature.
Montjoi became world-famous thanks to elBulli, the legendary restaurant of chef Ferran Adrià, which was located here for many years.
Just the route from Roses to Cala Montjoi is stunning.
Cala Rostella
Cala Rostella is one of those coves where you immediately understand why people fall in love with the Costa Brava.
Small, green, sheltered, and with beautifully clear water. The cove is a bit more challenging to reach than the beaches closer to Roses, and that's precisely why this place has a wonderfully natural character.
A beautiful spot to bring your snorkel.
Cala Pelosa
Another delightful spot is Cala Pelosa. A small cove in the heart of Cap de Creus with clear water and a beautiful natural setting.
Pelosa is popular with people who come by boat, but it is also a beloved destination from the land. Moreover, it is a wonderful place to combine a beach day with a long Spanish lunch.
Cala Jóncols
If you want to go even further, you can head to Cala Jóncols. This remote cove lies deep within the nature reserve and is especially loved by snorkelers and divers.
The rocky seabed and clear water make it a beautiful place to explore the underwater world. Just the journey there gives you the feeling of discovering a completely different part of the Costa Brava.
Cala Calitjàs & Cala Canadell
If you love discovering small, unspoiled coves, you can also add Cala Calitjàs and Cala Canadell to your list.
Here, you shouldn't expect a boulevard, sunbeds, or extensive amenities. It's precisely the rugged landscape, rocky coast, and clear water that are the reasons to head in this direction.
Perfect for those who love nature, snorkeling, and quiet spots.
Good to Know in Summer
Do you want to drive to the coves of Cap de Creus in the high season? Always check the current access rules in advance.
To protect the nature reserve and limit traffic congestion, access to some coves may be regulated in the summer. Also, in case of an increased risk of wildfires, roads or parts of the nature park may be temporarily closed.
Are you going on a day trip? Leave early, bring enough water, and don't forget your water shoes and snorkel.
Beach Holiday in Roses
Wide sandy beaches for a relaxing day with the family, small coves with clear blue water, and the unspoiled nature of Cap de Creus: around Roses, you can discover a different piece of coast every day.
It's precisely this variety that makes Roses a wonderful destination for a holiday on the Costa Brava.
